How Stranger Than Heaven’s Brutal Combat Borrows From Classic Yakuza Cinema | gamescom2026

You can always count on RGG Studio to find a new take on its Japanese underworld stories, and that’s exactly what we’re getting in Stranger Than Heaven. A distant prequel to the Like a Dragon series, it explores the origins of the Tojo Clan over multiple time periods. To talk more about creating that brand new world and the game’s unique combat system, director Mikinobu Abe joined us at gamescom 2026. His answers may not be strange, but the game sure does look like heaven.

The Defiant is a WWII Story Call of Duty Never Told | gamescom 2026

There have been more World War 2 video games than anyone can count, but none of them have shown the historic conflict like this. The Defiant takes us back to the Second Sino-Japanese War and puts us in the boots of Chinese soldiers fighting across numerous real battles. We caught up with Yu Heng Kong, founder of developer Hoothanes and producer of The Defiant, and Chor Yong, COO of publisher 4Divinity, to discuss the different gameplay opportunities offered by each of the campaign’s battles, recreating historical weapons and locations, and telling a war story unlike anything the genre has seen before.

The Defiant is currently in development for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
