EA Sports NHL 27 reviewed by Marc Deschamps on Xbox Series X|S, also available on PlayStation 5.
“Hockey is one of the greatest sports in the world, and NHL 27 remains enjoyable largely due to that simple fact. The satisfaction of delivering a bone-crushing hit or snapping a wrist shot past a goaltender is just as effective as ever, and tiny tweaks to stuff like stadiums and music continue to add authenticity in small doses – but there are no illusions that anything truly substantial has changed this year. With franchises like NHL Hitz and NHL 2K long dead, there really aren’t any other options on the market. This lack of competition puts the hockey faithful in a difficult position, and doubly so since there weren’t many changes in NHL 26 compared to NHL 25 to begin with. The handful of differences here are mostly welcome, nothing is worse than last year, but very little is better either. It’s a shame that NHL 27 is still stuck in the past.”

The skill trees in The Blood of Dawnwalker go way beyond the standard “get a point, buy a skill” system. Between managing valuable in-game time, hunting down specific skill manuals in the world, and raising your corruption levels by drinking blood, building out Coen’s arsenal takes some strategy. In this video, we break down exactly how the Witchcraft, Swordmastery, and Vampirism trees work, how to equip your abilities, and give our top recommendations on the absolute best early skills to grab first.
Whether you prefer wielding a sword in the daylight or unleashing Coen’s Vrakhiri vampire claws at night, optimizing your build early on is crucial. We dive into essential early-game abilities like Haste, Soul Reaping, Charge, and Voracious Bite, alongside vital perks that boost your armor, stamina, and activation charges. Knowing how to balance your weapon types and manage your health costs will give you a massive advantage against both standard enemies and tough bosses.

In today’s Daily Fix:
Naughty Dog’s Neil Druckmann confirmed to The Washington Post that the game developer is not involved creatively with HBO’s The Last of Us anymore. The company is still working on TLOU games, despite having its live-service title canceled. HBO’s The Last of Us will be debuting its third and final season sometime in 2027. In other news, Nintendo has announced two Directs for next week: one focusing on The Legend of Zelda’s 40th anniversary, and the other a showcase of titles coming to Switch 2 later this year. We’re hoping the Zelda direct not only features the first gameplay of the Ocarina of Time remake, but also a footage from next year’s Legend of Zelda movie. And finally we take a quick look at all the new games released this week.

“Yesterday the Two-Time learned the rules. Today I learn the economy. Every kill pays. Every death costs. Three armies, one control zone, and a bank account. Cash is king… and the king is here”
