Battlefield REDSEC Review

Battlefield REDSEC reviewed by Charlie Wacholz on PC, also available on Xbox and PlayStation.

After catching a few wins across all three of its main queues, Battlefield REDSEC’s slow-rolling storm just hasn’t done much to keep me wanting more aside from introducing a few interesting missions here and there. It’s enjoyable, sure, but its adaptation doesn’t mesh well with the pace and epic scale that makes Battlefield 6’s regular multiplayer so much fun. But where REDSEC’s battle royale only dilutes that formula, the Gauntlet mode that lives alongside it instead boils down and concentrates the best stuff from both Battlefield and battle royales at large into one of the coolest game modes I’ve seen from a military shooter in a long time. I hope EA and DICE plan on fleshing it out as part of their Battlefield 6 roadmap, because while I may not be interested in playing more of the battle royale mode, I am certainly interested in more Gauntlet.

Anno 117: Pax Romana Review

Anno 117: Pax Romana reviewed by Leana Hafer on PC, also available on Xbox and PlayStation.

Anno 117: Pax Romana is a gorgeous antique city-builder that sucked me in for dozens of hours as I planned out my next district or simply watched the bustle along my aqueduct-accented boulevards. I think this series and I were always destined to hit it off, but we kept missing each other or meeting up at the wrong times. I really get Anno now, and I could hardly be more enthused. The fantastic, deep trade system with a side of exciting naval combat really seals the deal. I could take or leave the campaign, but I still don’t think I’ve run out of things to do in the highly customizable endless mode. It may not quite be fit for a triumph, but it is certainly worthy of a standing ovation.

Elder Scrolls 6 ‘Still a Long Way Off,’ Bethesda Urges Patience – IGN Daily Fix

In today’s Daily Fix:
Bethesda’s Todd Howard knows we want The Elder Scrolls 6, but is asking for patience as the game is “still a long way off.” The original announcement came back in 2018—SEVEN YEARS AGO, if you’re counting—and there has not been any new teasers since then. Howard also teased a possible shadowdrop, like what Bethesda did with The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered (although several detailed leaks leading up to the drop spoiled some of the surprise). In other news, Nintendo’s Shigeru Miyamoto spoke about his minimal involvement with the Super Mario franchise, but is hoping he’ll still be around for the series’ 50th anniversary in 2035. And finally, Predator: Badlands has hit the ground running, reaching a franchise high opening weekend box office, and that’s considering the two Alien vs Predator spinoffs.
