In 007 First Light, follow James Bond as a young, resourceful, and sometimes reckless recruit in MI6’s training programme, and discover an origin story of the world’s most famous spy.
The gameplay footage at State of Play shows off the first mission James Bond embarks on as a new recruit to an expensive hotel in search of 009. After Bond picks up on a suspicious employee at the hotel, he makes his way into the building, making use of his excellent reconnaissance tactics to scan the area for the best way in. By utilizing tools such as matches and sleeping darts to distract guards, James Bond enters the hotel by using platforming mechanics to sneak in.
Once inside, Bond sets his plans in motion to find 009 by talking to the guests about the identity of the suspicious employee. This all builds to a high-stakes car chase through the countryside in pursuit of a perpetrator who leaves the hotel in a hurry. After finding the perpetrator’s abandoned vehicle, Bond takes off on foot towards an airline runway as the perpetrator makes his grand escape. An all-out gunfight ensues as Bond makes use of pistols, assault rifles, and close-quarters combat to engage enemies in the airport. He’s able to hit enemies with weapons, kick adversaries, and blow up cars and other environmental elements to gain the upper hand. James Bond fights his way into the plane to hack the controls of the plane, causing turbulence to give him the upper hand. The sequence ends with the plane making an escape as Bond parachutes back down to Earth.
In the field, players will make use of a suite of IO Interactive features to stealth gameplay with listening over conversations for clues, making use of items found in the sandbox play space, and more as the one and only James Bond. Multiple different paths are available to those who are more patient and prefer a more stealth approach, to the more bold fisticuffs-style of engagement. Tools such as laser watches, smoke devices, scanning technology, or Bond’s smooth talking can all be used in gameplay engagements to best suit the desired play style. When the going gets tough, James Bond can receive a “License to Kill” enabling his bullets to do the talking when necessary.
007 First Light will be available on PC, PlayStation 4 (PS4), PlayStation 5 (PS5), Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, and Xbox Series X/S on March 27, 2026.
