Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream is a deeply funny and equally personal civilization simulator. It is genuinely hilarious to create cartoonish renditions of your friends, family members, celebrities, and favorite characters and mix them all together just to see what absurd situations unfold. They’ll fall in love, get into fights, and say completely unhinged things that remain endearing dozens of hours later, even if its somewhat repetitive nature reveals itself well before that point. Where Living the Dream loses me is its extreme sharing restrictions. It’s beyond frustrating that there’s essentially no way to directly share Miis, custom creations, or even simple screenshots online, which is an enormous downgrade from the 3DS version. If you’re not good at designing complex characters or just get bored of it after a while, it can feel frustrating and isolating. Tomodachi Life: Living the Dream hands you the keys to a unique, quirky paradise that rewards your creativity and directly reflects your personality – I just wish I could enjoy it with my friends.

Mouse: P.I. for Hire nails the aesthetics of both the 1930s cartoons and the detective stories that inspired it, and it’s also an amusing boomer shooter that largely feels good as you’re playing it. But its haphazard marriage of noir storytelling tropes and shooter gameplay are often at odds with each other in uncomfortable ways that weaken both aspects, and the writing is so busy making references to other things that it’s actually painful to sit through at times. This FPS is solid enough if you just want to blast some cartoon mice and not think about it too hard – but once you do, all you’ll see are the seams where disparate ideas have been fused together, and no trenchcoat can hide the stink of that moldy cheese.

In today’s Daily Fix:
PlayStation 5 prices are up across all the different hardware variants, but in the days leading up to the price hike deadline, consumers responded by buying loads of PS5s. Data from Circana shows a spike in PS5 hardware sales up until the first week of April (when prices went up in the U.S.), giving Sony their best hardware sales week in their gaming division this year. In other news, a new leak suggests the next God of War game will not only have a different character to focus on, but also feature multiple mythologies from Asia. According to the leak, Kratos’ wife, Faye, will be the main character. And to round out our PlayStation-centric episode, new PS Plus games for May have been leaked, bringing Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered and more to the service.

This limited time event is available from April 15th to the 30th to everyone and definitley worth heading back in to San Vansterdam to kickflip, grind, and fall all over the place. This update in Skate also has improved physics, a persistent night mode in Grom, and a ton of Nike SB gear throughout the game.
