While they released Red Dead Redemption 2 in 2018, it’s been 13 long years since Grand Theft Auto 5 first hit consoles, and the wait for the next numbered entry is almost over. Following our first real look at gameplay and an exclusive chat with Rockstar, we are breaking down the massive leaps the franchise is making. From the dynamic, evolving relationship between Jason and Lucia to entirely overhauled vehicle theft mechanics, this is a deep dive into the most exciting new features waiting for us.
Grand Theft Auto 6 introduces sweeping, systemic updates to its open world, expanding heavily on the foundation of GTA5. Players will have to navigate a new Heat system that tracks outfits, vehicles, and accomplices alongside the classic wanted stars, while managing a dynamic Criminal Profile that influences NPC interactions much like the Honor system in Red Dead Redemption 2. With the addition of the WAINK scanner for complex carjacking, returning body stat mechanics reminiscent of San Andreas, and Leonida-specific side activities like fanboating and kayaking, the density of the world is taking a generational leap.
