Batman (Part 2) – Angry Video Game Nerd (AVGN)

In this part 2 of 2, the Nerd continues through his journey through the Batman games that were made for the Commodore 64, NES, Sega CD, Atari Lynx, SNES, Game Boy, and Genesis. This is Angry Video Game Nerd Episode 53.

First on the Joker’s stash is Sunsoft’s follow-up to their first NES Batman game, Batman: Return of the Joker for the NES, 1991. It was developed before the arrival of the film, Batman Returns, which the first game was actually more of a tie-in to the ’89 film. What sets apart from this game’s predecessor was the gameplay, in which Batman uses an arm cannon that shoots various types of Batarangs, and never uses close combat. Much like the first game, the graphic and music are excellent. However, it is also difficult, but it has several parts that make this game even more frustrating, such as the third stage, the falling rocks, and items that can’t shoot through. In some ways, Batman: RotJ for the NES wasn’t an overall terrible game, but was really inferior to its predecessor in many ways.
Next under on Joker’s sleeves is a Gameboy version of the same name in 1992. Unlike its NES counterpart, the GB version plays just like the first NES Batman game, with the hand-to-hand combat, throwing weapons, and the wall jump returns. This game also feature a grappling hook, for Batman to swing through large gaps. However, the GB version turn outs unenjoyable in more ways than one, due to its finicky controls, along with the grappling hook that pops out on its own. Good luck trying to beat the first level!
And lastly, the Joker brought out Batman: RotJ’s Genesis counterpart, Batman: REVENGE of the Joker, in 1992. It indeed and 16-bit enhancement of the NES version, but it turned out even worse, once you meet the gargoyles. It was very cryptic to know how you are supposed to destroy it. Will the Bat-Nerd escape this unusual torment from the deranged Clown Prince of Crime?! Well, you are on the right Bat-time on this Bat-channel!

Batman Part 1 – Angry Video Game Nerd (AVGN)

In this part one of two special, the Nerd dons his cowl and cape and prepares to beat back the darkness of bad video games, as he looks over a series of games based upon the dark knight himself, Batman, that were made for the Commodore 64, NES, Sega CD, Atari Lynx, SNES, Game Boy, and Genesis. This is Angry Video Game Nerd Episode 52.

James dresses up like Batman and reviews several video games based on the famous caped crusader of comic book and movie fame. The first game he reviews in this episode is “Batman: The Caped Crusader” for the Commodore 64, a redundant game with comic book style graphics that was published by Ocean Software in 1988. Next, he reviews the classic, stylish, addicting NES game “Batman” made by Sunsoft; “Batman Returns” for the SNES, Sega CD and Atari Lynx consoles based on the 1992 Tim Burton film of the same name; “The Adventures of Batman and Robin” based on the cartoon Batman: The Animated Series which aired on Fox from 1992 to 1995; and finally the atrocious and befuddling SNES game “Batman Forever” based on the 1995 Joel Schumacher film Batman Forever. At the end of the episode, Batman’s arch-nemesis, the Joker, makes an unwanted appearance and ties the nerd up. Check out part two for the conclusion!

This is a board game that’s anything but boring!

Fireball Island was released by Milton Bradley in 1986. Instead of a flat board, players traverse a three-dimensional island in search of the idol Vul-Kar’s jewel. But escaping with the treasure won’t be easy.

Players utilize cards, bridges, caves, and tokens as they attempt to obtain the treasure. Once they have it, they become the target of the other players. And let’s not forget the 5 – count ’em – 5 fireballs that can come careening down the mountain at any moment to engulf the players and put them in a smolder pit. Then face the most harrowing challenge of them all – making your game piece fit on the boat!

Superman 64 (N64) – Angry Video Game Nerd (AVGN)

Super Nerd returns, this time to save Superman from two more bad video games. Superman: The Game for the Commodore 64, and the infamous Superman 64 for the Nintendo 64. This is Angry Video Game Nerd Episode 51.

Superman 64 was released for Nintendo 64 in 1999. It was based off Superman The Animated Series on Kids WB. It was also coming to PlayStation. But, however, the PlayStation Version was never release. After the game came out on Nintendo 64, it became the world’s Worst Video Game of all time besides E.T. for Atari 2600.

Lex Luthor just trap Superman’s friends (Lois, Jimmy, and Professor Hamilton) into Virtual Really. Superman has no choice to enter Virtual Really to save his friends.

You play as Superman and it’s your job to fly throw Rings in the first level. Then later you have to pick up cars before they run over people. Then you have to fly throw more Rings. Then you have to pick up the Police Car and carry it to the Goal. Then after that, guest what’s comes after that? MORE RINGS!!!
