Call of Duty vs. Battlefield: The Last Great Gaming Rivalry

The age of video game rivalries is coming to an end. Sonic the Hedgehog is welcome in the Mushroom Kingdom any time. Madden buried NFL 2K more than 20 years ago. Forza and Marcus Fenix have shed the bonds of exclusivity, and it seems like any day now we’ll be pressing square to reload a Needler.

The inconceivable has become reality as gaming grows ever flatter and consolidated, but there’s at least one front where the fight is still on.
Call of Duty vs. Battlefield.

The two global superpowers of first-person shooters have been locked in conflict for decades, and their simmering cold war is about to heat up. EA’s Battlefield has been on the back foot for most of it, forced to play catch-up in their fight for conquest. Activision’s Call of Duty has achieved full domination of the FPS space – but success fuels complacency, and the tides of war can turn in an instant. The field is pitched for what could be their biggest showdown yet, so we’re taking a look at how the feud between CoD and BF has fuelled both franchises to greatness.

Blackwood – Official Gameplay Trailer

Enjoy the first official gameplay trailer for Blackwood, an upcoming cinematic third-person action game set in 2012 New York City with brutal combat moves that remind us more than a bit of John Wick. You play as Anton Blackwood, described as “a lowly DVD store owner by day, and a deadly assassin by night.”

The developers describe the gameplay in this video as such: The following 3-minute gameplay clip is taken from the Prologue of Blackwood. In this sequence, Anton — a contract killer living a double life — has just stolen a USB from a mob organization for one of his clients. Things quickly spiral out of control, and we cut ahead to avoid major spoilers. The clip begins as Anton emerges from the sewers beneath New York, only to realize the mob has found him again. Cornered near Grand Army Plaza at night, he’s left with no choice but to fight his way out — one kill at a time.”

Blackwood is due out in 2026 for PC. Wishlist it in Steam if you’re interested: https://store.steampowered.com/app/3639070/BLACKWOOD/

Keeper Review

Keeper reviewed by Sarah Thwaites on PC, also available on Xbox Series X|S.

A surreal painting come to life, Keeper is a stunning puzzle game that carefully balances its moreish mechanics with a heartfelt story. Its levels are teeming with life to interact with and interesting objects to ogle, with each scene framed by a percussive driving score. The leading duo might not speak. But, well-executed animations and a soundboard of affecting chirps and creaks imbue them with a spirit that grows on you fast. Adorable in premise, Keeper is a psychedelic exploration of life packed into a brief runtime that’s well worth experiencing at least once in your lifetime.
